need to save the blindness effect for times when your target has no one around who
can cure it.
" Primary warriors don t have much energy to begin with, and with only two pips of
energy regen, they don t get it back quickly. With that in mind, you can use energy-
denial skills (including Ether Feast) to help shut down any warrior that relies on
energy-based skills.
" With the previous bullet in mind, don t rely too much on warriors as targets for Ether
Feast or Energy Tap/Drain when you actually need the health or energy.
" Sympathetic Visage and Soothing Images are two skills in your arsenal that will annoy
adrenaline warriors (which the vast majority of warriors are) to no end. Familiarize
yourself with both if you want to make enemy warriors ineffective, but bringing only
one of the two on a given skill bar will usually suffice.
" If possible, interrupt Healing Signet when the warrior activates it.
Tips for fighting Rangers
" When facing trappers, remember that your cane and staff attacks will work just fine for
interrupting the easily interruptible trap-laying skills; in fact, as a mesmer, you might
be one of your team s best choices for stopping trappers. Even if you suspect an
enemy R/Me is using Mantra of Concentration/Resolve, don t give up your assault.
Keep staving the ranger and he/she will either run out of energy or simply be unable to
use the stance again due to recharge time, and the traps will start failing. Don t forget
that you can switch targets to check health, cast hexes, etc., while still auto-attacking
the ranger.
" When facing interruption rangers (rangers who really like Distracting Shot, Punishing
Shot, Concussion Shot, etc.), your strategy will vary depending on whether the ranger
- 127 -
is targeting you. If you aren t being targeted and have some anti-fighter hexes, lay
them on the ranger especially hexes like Ineptitude [Elite] or Clumsiness. If your
timing is uncanny, you may also be able to interrupt some of the ranger s own shots
using Leech Signet or Cry of Frustration, though those interrupts will likely be better
saved for dealing with other skills. If you re the ranger s target, abuse terrain
obstacles (if possible) to avoid the shots, and then counterattack or simply avoid the
ranger while your team kills him/her. If no obstacles are readily available, stand still
and shoot your staff in return, but don t use skills. If the ranger gets anxious and uses
an interrupt pointlessly, you can respond with some spells. Otherwise, you can try
using a very fast-casting hex like Conjure Phantasm to try to trick the ranger into
wasting Distracting Shot. You can also try carrying Mantra of Concentration/Resolve
to prevent interruption if you continually find yourself the target of this type of ranger.
" Versus archers (i.e., damage-dealing bow rangers), you ve got your work cut out for
you. Your best bet against archers is to abuse terrain obstacles and request support
from your team. Degeneration hexes, snare, and Cry/Leech are all handy for helping
kill such rangers, and Energy Burn/Tap/Surge work well for keeping the ranger s
energy at a modest level. Blindness is once again a great option if you can keep it
active. Don t forget that you can try to dodge arrows manually by moving around,
though most rangers will have speed enhancements for their arrows that defeat such
efforts. Distortion is also very economical for defending against archers due to their
sluggish attack speed and lack of skills to punish evade stances. If you notice an
archer is spamming the Quick Shot or Barrage elites, you can use Diversion to render
that character useless for a good, long while.
" Versus beast masters, you ll do well to snare the pet if it s attacking you. Before you
do that, though, check and make sure the pet is actually dealing a noticeable amount
of damage. Some rangers bring them just for the distraction factor with no points in
Beast Mastery, so don t be fooled by pets that hit for measly amounts of damage.
When you run into a pet that deals damage, though, you ll want to kill or disable it
quickly. Your armor-ignoring damage spells all work well for this purpose, and
