Chapter 18: Ten Really Great Sites for Study Aids
In This Chapter
" CCNA exam study materials on the Web
"
Other resources you can use to prepare for the CCNA exams
Variety is one of the keys to preparing for the CCNA exams. By using a number of different study tools and
aids, you can see many ways of asking the same question. This helps prepare you for whatever wording and
question formats you find on the CCNA exam.
A variety of sites on the Web simulate the test content and format fairly accurately. Some are free and some
charge a nominal fee. The free ones are certainly worth the cost; the others caveat emptor. You need to
balance how much you want to spend on study aids to prepare yourself for a $100 test. Of course, if you
donÇt pass, the cost of the test begins to multiply. Be cautious when buying study aids, and look for the
bargains that are out there.
The web sites and other resources listed in this chapter are sites I believe youÇll find helpful without having
to spend a fortune. Please understand that all of these sites actually did exist at the time we wrote this book. If
any of these sites have disappeared, you should search for others.
Cisco Systems, Inc.
www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/
This should be your first stop when preparing for the CCNA exams. This site is the proverbial ÝhorseÇs
mouthÛ for the CCNA tests. Cisco Systems keeps the information on this site up-to-date and it also has links
to information about the exam, the career certification program, and for online test registration.
If youÇre looking for preparation courses, training courses, online materials, or practice tests, the Cisco site
also lists the names and contact information for a number of training partners and commercial training
companies.
BeachFront Quizzer
http://ww.bfq.com/cisco.html
One of the more popular practice test companies on the Web, BeachFront offers practice tests for nearly all
certification exams. You can download a free sample to try out its test engine before you buy.
Boson Software, Inc.
www.boson.com
Boson Software, Inc. has practice tests for nearly all major vendor certifications. Its claim is that its test
simulators have been written by networking professionals and that youÇre certain to be ready to pass the
exam. Boson SoftwareÇs CCNA practice test, which is just one of several Cisco exams available, is based on
CiscoÇs published objectives and features more than 200 practice questions, all for a very reasonable price.
The site also has a free demo test.

CramSession.com
www.cramsession.com/cramsession/cisco/ccna/
This site provides access to a summary of exam facts as well as a cram session study guide thatÇs an
excellent supplement to the cheat sheet included with this book for your last-minute studying.
As you get closer to the exam day, use this site to fine-tune your memory banks for the test. You also can use
it to start outlining the areas you need to study.
MeasureUp, Inc.
www.measureup.com
This company boasts that more than 175,000 IT professionals have used its practice tests to become certified.
Whether you believe that or not, the site does have a full list of practice exams, including the CCNA exam
you need. It also has a free demo test that you can download.
MentorLabs
www.mentorlabs.com/vlab/access
MentorLabsÇ first offering is its vLab offering, which is a learning environment offering hands-on
experience over the Web to state-of-the-art equipment. MentorLabs teams up with Cisco Systems to create
the vLabÇs first application, a Cisco routing and switching laboratory. This method is especially useful if you
donÇt have access to Cisco equipment.
SelfTest Software
www.selftestsoftware.com
This company offers what are arguably the best practice tests available on the Web. In fact, SelfTest Software
practice tests are the ones most like the real thing. If you can afford to purchase a quality practice test, this is
where you should start shopping.
Welcome.to/CCNA
http://welcome.to/ccna
This may be the most off-beat site we recommend, but you can find a lot of helpful hints and tips about
taking the CCNA exam supplied by people who have taken the test. Its look and feel may be a little awkward,
but itÇs full of good stuff.
The TechWeb Encyclopedia
www.techweb.com/encyclopedia
This site, operated by CMP Media, Inc., is another great site where you can enter a specific term or concept
and get a well-worded definition as well as a few reference links that you can use to further your studies.
Whatis.com
www.whatis.com
223
Perhaps the best all-around reference on the Internet for computing, networking, and Internet terms and
concepts, the Whatis.com site enables you to select the term you want to define by using a directory of terms
at the top of the frameset. Use this site when all other sources for a definition fail you.
amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, borders.com, and
fatbrain.com
www.2prep.com/store
www.amazon.com
www.barnesandnoble.com
www.borders.com
www.fatbrain.com
What are booksellers doing in the list of CCNA sites, you ask? Well, whether you use the bookstore at
Sylvan Prometrics, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Borders, fatbrain, or another online bookstore, these sites
can provide a list of the very latest CCNA exam guides, cram books, and question banks available in print.
The test simulators are good, especially if you buy some of the complete test banks. But a study guide in print
form is a good way to study when youÇre away from your PC, like on an airplane, in the bath, or out on a date
(this is important stuff!).
