affectionate face at Snickers. She looked at him with calm eyes, and blinked them. As
soon as she was off of the bag, Jason lifted it and placed it on the floor next to his bed. He
began to undress and soon lay down in bed trying to sleep. He finally got to sleep, after
hours of racing thoughts, some of which he could only sadly watch fly by, and never
expect such things to ever become a reality.
Chapter 5
When the alarm went off Jason jumped out of bed and turned it off. He went back
over to his bed and sat down, pulling a cigarette out of the pack lying on the bedside
table. Jason was very excited looking out the window. The sky was still dark blue with
some cloud cover, but it was warm. Jason was literally bouncing on the bed. He decided
he wanted to listen to some techno. So he ran over to the tape deck and pressed play.
When the music came, he adjusted the volume so it was just right and ran back over to
his bed. He sat there Indian style near the head of his bed bouncing with excitement.
Snickers jumped up onto the bed, only to quickly jump off again due to the strong
bouncing. Jason was very hyper and anxious for the trip to Atlantic City to begin.
Jason tried as hard as he could to calm down, when he realized he had an hour and
a half, until Jacquelyn's mother got there to pick him up. Jason only had to take a shower,
and everything would be done, but he ran to the shower a scrubbed his body vigorously,
trying to hurry. Jason could not control this excitement; he had never seen the ocean, not
to say buildings exceeding ten stories. Jason occupied the rest of the time smoking
cigarettes and listening to music. While walking around in his garden later, he was
relieved to see Jacquelyn and her mother pull up. He literally had everything ready for the
day. He had about sixty dollars he got from his mother he would try to make last. They
were almost at the park where they were to meet Amanda when Jason realized he needed
more cigarettes. They found a twenty-four hour gas station and bought two packs. Son
enough they were at the meeting place. Jason saw a few people he knew but most he
never saw before in his life.
The sun was just beginning to peek over the mountain top when they all began to
board the bus. Jason noticed Tameera was there along with Mary, her mother, and an
older lady. On the way down to Atlantic City, all Jason did was look out the window and
take pictures. Things seemed so much more interesting outside of his state. Half way to
the city as they were at a near stop on the highway, the seat next to him fluctuated. Jason
looked up and sitting next to him was Tameera. "Hi," she said smiling ear to ear, looking
at him and turning a shade of pink. Tameera was a beautiful girl, with natural brown hair,
streaked with blond and frosted highlights. She had sharp cheekbones and her earrings
sparkled in the sun. Her body was of a ballerina, her eyes a beautiful brown, and
eyelashes beautifully separated.
"Hi," Jason said back. "So what made you decide to sit by me? Tameera was the
most beautiful girl he had seen in a long time. Beautiful girls, he thought, don't talk to
ugly people.
"Because I would like to get to know you. She replied still smiling with her pink
cheeks turning into a delightful shade of red. Jason already had a red face from the instant
he realized there was somebody sitting next to him.
"Really? Well that's a first. Nobody ever wants to get to 'know me'" he said
sheepishly.
"Well I do, is there something wrong with that?"
"Of course not," Jason replied, just now noticing a large stretch of water. "Wow,
isn't that so cool?"
"Yeah, it is, so I take it you have never seen the bay before."
"Oh honey, I've neva even seen the ocean. Jason had let it slip. He actually
sounded like a feminine type homosexual. Jason never viewed himself as the feminine
type. He was always the more unnoticeable gay guy. Actually guys acting extremely
flaming really annoyed him.
Tameera must not have noticed because she continued to talk. Jason suddenly
realized he was still way too hard on himself, and a little too sensitive to how others
perceived him. "Aww, I feel so bad for you, but you stick with me and seeing the beach
will be worth your while. She said smiling and growing excited. Then from the back of
the bus Amanda mentioned she was going to open some presents. Jason had turned
